ABOUT:

Finestkind music

A Family Tradition

Founded by drummer and producer Dan Boyden, Finestkind Music is a platform for creating, curating and promoting soulful music that resonates out of the rocky coast of Maine.

The inspiration for this endeavor stems from Dan's family, an incredible cast of musicians, teachers, artists, builders, actors and community organizers and most significantly from Dan's mom, Annie Boyden. Whether it was leading the Finestkind String Band, manifesting community theater, building an arts center, curating workshops, or teaching in schools, Annie, with her husband Perry always are her side, sought to inspire, encourage and educate the artist within everyone. For her, art was "not just a way to express oneself ... but rather the creation of an attitude and awareness that allowed for participation and celebration in the art of living."  In this spirit, Dan aims to use his years of experience as a band member, band leader, producer and musical director to create projects that highlight the incredible creative community that is connected to and surrounds Portland, Maine.

So far Finestkind Music has produced recorded music for Joshua Eden, Apis Rex and Dan Boyden.  It also launched its first live series, the Finestkind Sessions. Over the course of four night at the Portland House of Music, a backing band filled of some Portland's most sought after musicians played with some of the cities most veteran artists. It was a sampling of what this platform intends to create: nights full of collaboration and celebration fueled by artistry and joy.  Stay tuned for more.
